Scott Frier is one of the elder statesmen of the solar industry in the United States. He helped set up large solar farms in the Californian desert in the mid-1980s. Now, as Chief Operating Officer for Spanish company Abengoa, he oversees even larger projects, including the construction of the world’s two biggest solar plants. He says that it’s energy security and jobs, rather than climate change concerns, which are driving the solar industry in the US.
